Sustainability in harmony with nature and society

We and our products stand for ecological and social sustainability, as we align our activities and production to minimize negative impacts on the environment and society while promoting positive effects.

Sustainability is embedded in every step of production because we let nature and the soul of the trees live on.

01

Durability + Values for Generations

Our tables are made to last forever because every "table grows with you." We have designed our products and their accompanying service program to ensure they can be enjoyed for a long time and can be adapted to new situations. Whatever life brings – we are happy to adapt with you to the changing circumstances. With a one-time payment, the old tabletop can be replaced with a new one.

02

Personal Delivery Across Europe

Our solid wood tables are not only beautiful but also beautifully heavy. That’s why we ensure, with our personal delivery service (across Europe), that the tables arrive safely in their new home. We also use this opportunity to give our customers a detailed "table induction" and polish the surface perfectly before we say goodbye.

03

Sustainability in Material Procurement

We only use trees from the region (within approximately a 250 km radius) that have already reached the "end of their life" – resulting in a higher-value use of the raw material, wood. Since we only use regional materials for our designs, the procurement process is low in transport intensity, and we know exactly where every single tree comes from (this is documented for each of our customers via a personalized QR code).

04

Sustainability in Production

For the production of our unique pieces, we rely on solar energy and efficient use of material waste. We generate the electricity for production, drying, and administration through our own photovoltaic system, and the heating energy for the workshop comes from production waste. This makes the production of our products almost completely energy-autonomous.

05

Social Sustainability

In our team, we focus on independence in work design. We know that those who love what they do and are free to implement their own ideas can create something truly unique. Additionally, preserving traditions in craftsmanship plays a major role for us. Therefore, we regularly organize great and exciting craft courses: Craft Course Cutting Board | Craft Course Wall Clock.

06

Letting Nature’s Uniqueness Live On

Allowing nature's uniqueness to live on plays an outstanding role for us, because what we do is nothing other than preserving nature – in its very unique form – as well as possible. Therefore, we don't shape our wood, as each trunk is naturally predestined to become a particular Stammdesign object. To highlight the uniqueness even more, we combine our solid wood slabs with an elegant glass base – thus making our tree trunk tables float weightlessly above the ground.

07

Wood Originals as Sustainable Furniture Pieces

Wood is a long-lasting CO2 storage material. For example, a tabletop absorbs an average of 100 kg of carbon dioxide per table from the atmosphere.

08

Sustainable Tree Planting Initiative

Every Stammdesign customer automatically becomes a sponsor of a new tree with their purchase, which will store carbon for decades, possibly centuries, and thus the cycle is complete.

We create wood & design perfection through care & craftsmanship

What we do is nothing less than preserving nature – in its most primal form – as well as possible. We do not design our wood, because every trunk is naturally destined to become a particular object. That’s why we treat the trees that come to us with care in our production. Only with care, craftsmanship, and material knowledge can perfection be guaranteed in every Stammdesign piece of furniture.

We see the uniqueness in every tree and let it live on

What makes all Stammdesign objects special is the selection of the wood. Since we create unique pieces, this starts in the forest. The local trees we work with in our workshop are usually at the end of their life cycle. They have been victims of storms, had to be removed for safety reasons, or have died inside. In traditional woodworking, such trunks are only used for one purpose: firewood. For us, this is the challenge – we see the uniqueness in every tree and let it, in another form, live on for a long time.

The wood we use to create a tree stump table, wood sculptures, a longboard, or wooden elements stands out because of its twisted shape, unique grain pattern, and natural growth characteristics. These include knots, inclusions, branches, fungal infestations, reaction wood, forks, discolorations, and much more. All of these are what others might call "wood defects". For us, however, these have incredible value – this is nature. Every tree we use has lived its unique life – so what could be more natural than showing this? Every feature tells a chapter of its individual life story. Where did it stand? What storms did it endure? How much light did it receive? All of this is preserved in the memory of the wood, and we let it shine through. For us, this is the beauty of nature, for us, this is expressive. Unique. Wood.
